Being Heard

Mostly, I want this space to bring a sense of “Really? Me, too!” to my readers. I don’t want to be the woman who has it all figured out and now wants to tell you how it should go. We all bring our own stuff to our lives and, therefore, view life through that lens. This is just a glimpse into where I was before I finally was able to get it all down in words. Maybe you can relate some days. I’m sitting here with this dratted depression I’ve been carrying around for a week, like a beloved but […]

Nurse guilt

You know what I am talking about… You had to work the day of your daughter’s recital and couldn’t get anyone to cover for you. It’s your Christmas to work, so you have to either get your kids up at the butt-crack of dawn or make them wait ’til you get home to open gifts (or not see their sweet faces at all when they open their gifts.) It’s d.ate night. Your spouse was counting on you being home this Friday so you can go out. Your best work friend called and he is making you feel more guilty about […]

Summertime, Seventies-style

No one is allowed to get hurt anymore. Remember the days when we got slung off of merry-go-rounds, took headers out of trees, even went without seat belts in the car, for crying out loud?! Now it’s all safety regulations and FDA rules. As a mom myself, I get it. No one wants their babies to be injured. But seriously… **************** “Don’t come back in ‘til the streetlights come on!” my grandma hollered after us. I think we were on her last nerve. Me and my cousins came each summer to spend ten days with them and I know there […]

Celebrations

Some things we celebrate are big – some are small. Tonight I celebrated being able to import and “split” my manuscript in Scrivener, a writing software I have been struggling to learn how to use. Yay, me! My mama, a former preacher’s wife, has always been great at celebrations. She could whip up a meal for 25 in no time. In the pre-Pinterest days, she would pull out all the stops for our birthdays, making our cakes, sewing our clothes, and in general, showering us with love. I’m no domestic goddess like her. I do love to celebrate my people, […]

Peopling

I often say my husband can only do so much peopling and then he is done. Ready to be alone… If you met him in his office or at a function you would think he was Mr. Extrovert. How-ya-doin’-where-you-from-so-great-to-meet-you.  Then – “Jennifer, lets go home.” Ha! Aren’t we all like that, though? My kids are such a blend of my husband and I. One thing we all have in common, though, is our mix of introvert and extrovert qualities. We enjoy being with family and friends. After awhile, though, you just wanna get in your comfy clothes and read a […]
